Backyard In Marengo

This young family was throwing back and forth the idea of installing a pool or just a large patio and eventually the kids won and got their pool.

The pool contractor installed the pool as well as the concrete patio but they still had the issue of grading since the pool was outside of the walk-out basement. We worked with this customer to come up with a couple different designs including a large paver patio area, boulder retaining walls surrounding the pool, and Block walls surrounding the pool area.

In order to stay within budget, they chose to go with block walls. We had to battle heavy rains, a natural spring, changes to pool equipment locations, and trying to tie this project into a walkway and landscape project we had done for this customer the previous year.

We used natural limestone steps to access the deck above and the walkway coming from the front of the home. We used a mix of retaining walls and erosion control techniques to handle the slope since the deck footings would not allow for us to add a second tier behind the first wall.

Low voltage outdoor lighting was added to help navigate the 12 steps leading down to the pool area. This space is now the place to be at parties and family get togethers.
